Description

This soft, fluffy, and nutrient-rich healthy homemade sandwich bread is made with whole wheat flour, olive oil, and natural sweeteners for a perfect everyday loaf that’s easy to bake and packed with flavor.


Ingredients

Scale

3 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/4 cups warm water
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chia seeds or flaxseeds (optional)


Instructions

In a mixing bowl, dissolve the honey or maple syrup in warm water, then sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
Add the flour, salt, olive oil, and optional seeds into the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Cover again and let it rise for another 30–45 minutes, until it rises just above the rim of the pan.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

You can substitute whole wheat flour with spelt or a gluten-free blend. Add sunflower seeds or oats on top before baking for extra texture. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour during kneading. For a softer crust, brush with melted butter after baking.
