Description
Juicy hamburger steak recipe simmered with sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms in a savory broth easy, hearty, and made in one skillet.
Ingredients
Ingredients
1 ½ pounds ground beef (90% lean)
⅓ cup plain dried bread crumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
¾ cup sliced onion
½ red bell pepper, sliced
½ green bell pepper, sliced
Salt and black pepper, to taste
½ cup beef broth
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, garlic, egg, seasoned salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently, then form the mixture into 4 patties.
Heat olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the onions soften and vegetables begin to caramelize. Remove from skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the beef patties and sear for about 3 minutes per side until browned.
Return the cooked vegetables to the skillet, placing them around the patties. Pour in beef broth, reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the patties are fully cooked (160°F).
Remove the patties and vegetables from the skillet. Boil the remaining liquid in the skillet until it reduces by half, then drizzle it over the patties before serving.
Notes
For a leaner alternative, use ground turkey or chicken. You can also add a sprinkle of chili flakes for some heat. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and add it to the simmering broth. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 3 months.
