Ingredients
2 pounds chuck roast or sirloin tips, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or almond flour for low-carb)
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 medium onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons cold water
(Optional) ½ cup red wine for deglazing
(Optional) 1 cup sliced mushrooms
(Optional) ½ cup diced bell peppers
(Optional) ¼ cup heavy cream
(Optional) Cajun seasoning or smoked paprika for a spicy twist
Instructions
Season beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then toss with flour until evenly coated. Let sit for 10 minutes.
Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear beef in batches until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
In the same pan, sauté onions and garlic until soft. Deglaze the pan with red wine if using.
Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring well. Return beef to the pan and bring to a simmer.
Cover and cook on low for 1½ hours, or until beef is fork-tender.
Mix cornstarch with cold water, stir into the pot, and simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened.
For a creamy version, stir in heavy cream before serving. Add mushrooms or bell peppers for more flavor during the last 30 minutes.
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, or cauliflower mash.
Notes
For ultra-tender beef, choose chuck roast and cook low and slow.
This dish stores well and tastes even better the next day.
